The Radiological Center in Heidelberg (Germany)

The Radiological Center in the City of Heidelberg is a modern, cross-regional joint practice e for radiological and nuclear medical diagnostics. A highly qualified group of dedicated and well trained professional medical doctors work at the joint practice, whose mission is to provide the very best, comprehensive diagnostic services to patients in a variety of settings, such as cardio (cardiac) diagnostics using Computer tomography (CT) / Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and nuclear medicine, neuroradiology, prostate examination and breast mammography, as well as various preventivetypes of services.

The professional exchange, interdisciplinary cooperation and collaboration with established specialists is of high significance for the doctors of the Radiological Center. The digital networking between all five locations of the Center, the teleradiological connection to the University Clinic of Heidelberg and the University Clinic of Mannheim allows the discussion of extreme complicated questions and prompt diagnosis. Working in cooperation with other specialists in various fields makes the "on-line case meetings" possible at any time, in particular in case of complex diagnostic inquires.

Moreover, the Radiological Center in Heidelberg participates in the international project of "Teleradiological diagnostics and second teleradiological opinion".

The Radiological Center of AGAPLESION BETHANIEN KRANKENHAUS HEIDELBERG was the first medical center in Germany to establish a dual-source computer tomography of the latest generation - the Siemens SOMATOM Force. This high-end device is a diagnostic tool for almost any radiological examination. The short examination time required and the significantly reduced contrast agent dose enables in particular every sensitive group of patients the access to very gentle diagnostics.

The most important peculiarity of CT Siemens SOMATOM Force is the non-invasive imaging of the heart, especially of the coronary arteries, the so-called cardio-CT diagnostics. The use of technical innovations, such as the dual-tube and detector-technology (dual-source) and the 4-dimensional display, helps to achieve a previously unknown image quality. The functions of the heart and the blood flow can be measured. In addition, the changes of the smallest vessels can be displayed in detail. Patients with a higher heart rate, arrhythmia, pacemaker, stents and bypasses can be examined more precociously and with a better result.

Due to this modern diagnostic a heart catheter examination may be avoid because it bares the well-known corresponding risks. The use of these new technologies makes it possible for the first time to select individual examination protocols tailored to the patient's needs and questions, thus minimizing the x-rays exposure, so that the exposure is equal only to the amount that someone gets during a transatlantic flight.

Because of the significantly lower burden and the ambulatory feasibility of all examinations, CT SOMATOM Force is perfect for early diagnosis examinations of all kinds, for example, in the area of heart, vessels, lungs and intestine.

Few thousand of coronary artheriographies have been done with the CT SOMATOM Force since November 2014.
